TK1971 Betting Odds Explained: Decimals and Probability

Quick Summary

  • Decimal odds show total return per unit staked, including your stake.
  • Implied probability is 1 divided by the odds.
  • The sum of implied probabilities above 100% is the bookmaker's margin.
  • Examples here are illustrations, not TK1971 prices.

Verdict: once you can convert odds into a percentage, most betting hype stops working on you. This page explains decimal odds, the implied probability they carry, how the bookmaker margin hides inside prices and how to work out a return in Taka. The numbers are examples only, not TK1971 prices. We are the official TK1971 partner site and take no bets.

Reading decimal odds

Decimal odds give your total return for each ৳1 staked, including the stake. At 2.50, a ৳100 stake returns ৳250 if it wins, which is ৳150 profit. At 1.40, ৳100 returns ৳140, a profit of ৳40. Many sites default to decimal, but the format can often be switched in settings.

Fractional and American formats exist too; our article on odds formats compares them.

Decimal oddsStakeTotal returnProfit
1.50৳200৳300৳100
2.00৳200৳400৳200
3.50৳200৳700৳500

Implied probability

Divide 1 by the decimal odds to get the probability the price implies. Odds of 2.00 imply 50%. Odds of 4.00 imply 25%. Odds of 1.25 imply 80%. If you think the real chance is higher than the price implies, that is value; if not, you are paying for hope.

Quick check: a favourite at 1.25 still loses one time in five if the price is fair, which is more often than most people feel.

Fractional odds such as 6/4 convert to decimal by dividing and adding one: 6 divided by 4 is 1.5, plus 1 gives 2.50. Learning this quick conversion lets you compare prices from different sources without confusion.

The margin

Add up the implied probabilities of all outcomes in a market. In a fair market they sum to 100%. Bookmakers price slightly above that, and the extra, perhaps a few per cent, is their margin. Illustration: a two-way market priced 1.91 and 1.91 implies 52.4% each, totalling 104.7%.

That margin is the long-run cost of betting, which is why no pattern or system beats it reliably.

Using odds well

Convert before you bet, compare the same market across markets you can see and avoid accumulators where margins compound. The sports betting hub links to each sport, and the cricket odds page applies this to cricket. Keep limits in mind; the responsible gaming page helps.

A last example: stake ৳500 on odds of 3.00 and you get back ৳1,500 if it wins, a ৳1,000 profit. If you lose, you lose the ৳500. Over ten identical bets at a fair 33.3% chance you would expect roughly three wins, but short runs can be far from that.
